Robert E. Swords, age 76 of Mt. Sterling, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2015. He was born Sept. 5, 1938 in Friendship, Ohio.
Son of the late Robert Paul and Catherine (Ratliff) Swords; also preceding him in death, wife Vally; sisters Phyllis and Lisa; brothers Jim and Ralph; infant twins Marvin & Melvin; infant twins boy & girl.
He is survived by his children Katherine (Gene) Beretich of Baltimore, Dan (Linda) Swords of Orient, Louise (Bob) Kolb of Galena; 4 grandchildren Megan Beretich, Andrea (Sean) Light, Joey (Stephanie) Swords, and Isaiah Kolb; 3 great-grandchildren Abigail, Norah, and Jacob Light; 11 brothers and sisters Wanda, Bud, Richard, Sue, Vickie, Sheila, Steve, Charrie, Valerie, Dan and Cindy; brother-in-law and his wife Rossano (Lucia) Lombardelli of Italy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during VietNam in the 18th Battalion 1st Infantry Division called the "Black Lions".
A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Glenn Stern officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. A military service will be performed at the gravesite by the Circleville Amvets Post #2256 for the VietNam veteran. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4 - 7 p.m.
