Robert Wilkes

Robert E. Wilkes, age 79, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. In his retirement, as an avid RV’er, Bob wintered in Seminole, Florida and summered in Hilliard, Ohio. Bob was born October 29, 1932 to John and Merle Harris Wilkes of Columbus. He served our country in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952 through 1956 on the USS Boxer and was honorably discharged in February, 1960. He attended Ohio University graduating with a BS Electrical Engineering degree in 1961. He worked for the General Electric Company, Light Military Electronics Department as a Senior Field Engineer at Warner Robins Air Force Base, GA and Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, supporting military activities in Viet Nam on F-105, F-4D and F-111A aircraft. Subsequently, Bob traveled the US as a Contract Engineer working at LTV Aerospace, Dallas TX; Naval Air Facility, Pensacola FL; Electronic Communications, St Petersburg FL; Radiation, Melbourne FL; Lear-Siegler, Grand Rapids MI; Westinghouse, Baltimore MD; Emerson Electric, St Louis MO; Chrysler Corp, Sterling Heights MI; Delco Electronics, Santa Barbara CA; General Dynamics, Warren MI; and Stewart & Stevenson, Houston TX. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother, John. He is survived by his brother, Stanford, his brother John’s wife, Doris, four nephews, three nieces, one grandniece and three great-grandnieces. Bob's path through life linked him with many good friends and neighbors, who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, Ohio 43026 on Thursday, July 19, 2012, between 3:00 and 7:00 pm; the funeral service will be held at the TIDD Funeral Home on Friday, July 20, 2012, at 10:00 am.
