Ruth Elaine Staker, age 81, went to be with Jesus on December 29, 2009 at The Arbors at Hilliard, after a wonderful Christmas celebration with her entire family. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 30, 1928 to William Randolf and Ruth Evelyn Bigler who both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 47 years, Lowell “Bud” Staker and her grandson Patrick Michael Shane.
Ruth is survived by her son L G Staker, daughter Valeri (Jim) Shane, granddaughters Colleen (Billy) Heath and Kelly Shane, and great-grandson Aiden Heath, and daughter and long time care-giver Sherri Staker. She is also survived by her cousin Dorothy (Mickey) Kauffman.
As a young girl, Ruth lived in Columbus, Ohio, Salina, Kansas and Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she graduated from South High School in 1946. She attended Ohio State University for three years. She worked at Robert’s Dress Store by Broad & High, where her employer and future mother-in-law introduced her to her one true love. They were married on August 21, 1948. After moving around Columbus a while they made permanent residence in Hilliard in 1955.
Ruth suffered a brain aneurysm in 1957, which left her paralyzed for the rest of her life. At first times were really difficult but she slowly worked up the drive to get back to her normal life. She was an accomplished pianist and with a lot of effort played the piano one-handed.
Sincere thanks to all the staff at the Arbors at Hilliard where Ruth lived from 1997 until her death. Their kindness and helpfulness over the last twelve years was greatly loved and appreciated. Special thanks to Kelly Keita, who helped make Ruth happy with his warm caring and thoughtfulness.
She lived at Arbors at Hilliard from 1997 until her death. The Arbors was her choice of residence which kept her close to the Hilliard United Methodist Church where she was a member for over fifty years.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at THE TIDD FUNERAL HOME 5265 Norwich St. Hilliard, OH 43026.
