Stephen Craig DeWeese, 78, of Hilliard, Ohio, was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with family by his side on August 23, 2014, at Kobacker House Hospice, after a battle with Lewy Body Parkinson's disease. Steve was born in Lima, Ohio, on May 8, 1936. He was preceded in death by parents Theodore and Clara DeWeese and brother John DeWeese. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Sadie, whom he married 54 years ago on Valentine's Day; daughter, Kelly Makeever of Fishers, Indiana; sons, Steve (DeEtte) DeWeese of Worthington, and Eric (Kim) DeWeese of Hilliard. Also survived by his brother, David DeWeese of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; brother-in-law, Ron Brewster of Hilliard, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Kathy (Ron) Peters of Williamsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Meredith (Roy) Salas, Grant Makeever, Lydia DeWeese, Maria Makeever, Andrew DeWeese, Evelyn DeWeese, and Nathan DeWeese; and great-granddaughter, Maya Salas. He also is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was a long-time member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for many years, and was always willing to serve, especially in the VBS program after retirement. Steve graduated from Lima Central High School in 1954, graduated from The Ohio State University in 1959 with a Civil Engineering degree and worked as a Civil Engineer at various firms, retiring from URS in 2001. He was an avid music and sports fan and greatly enjoyed watching his children and then grandchildren in both music and sporting events over the years. He was a member of the Theta Tau Fraternity at Ohio State, Chi Epsilon National Civil Engineering Honor Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and was a Life Member of the Engineers Club of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and left a great legacy of faith, love and service for his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Friends will be received Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. officiated by Pastor Eric Waters at the Mill Run Campus of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Interment will follow at Bloomfield Cemetery in Morrow County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church at 2300 Lytham Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220, or Kobacker House Hospice, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
