Stephen Carl Smith

Stephen Carl Smith, age 77, of Columbus OH, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Glenwood Care Center. He was born August 5^th, 1940 in Columbus, OH. He was in the class 1958 of Upper Arlington High School until he chose to serve our Country in the US Army. Steve was the proud owner of what became Steve Smith Auto Sales for over 45 years on Westerville Rd. Steve was preceded in death by his father Harry W. Smith and his mother Kathryn Kelly Smith, sister Sandra S. Smith, brother James H. Smith and sister Stephanie K. Brunner. Survived by his brother, Spencer (Susie) Smith, his four children Tamara Goslee (Jim), Thomas Smith, Tracy Wait (Ron), Terry Rice (Jamie), and by Marlene Freeman his supporting loving friend and mother of his four children. Steve was a proud grandfather of 12, James Camp, Jordan Velasco (Sixto), Allison Wait (Sean Reynolds), Rebecca Wait, Clare Wait, Zachary Rice, Josslyn Goslee (Jaylen Foster), Camryn Rice, Douglas Wait, Colin Smith (Tareyn Bryan), James Goslee, Julia Goslee and Steve’s great grandchild Caden Smith. In addition, survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends. Steve had a fun loving spirit and loved to be the center of attention, making others around him laugh. He was an avid boat racer starting Smith Racing Team in 1959 purchasing a D Runabout with his brother Jim and lived for his weekends with his family and friends at the races. He was proud that his son Tom and grandson Colin carried on the tradition and are still racing today, bringing national championships to the Smith Racing team. Steve was very proud of his service in the US Army and his successful business that he owned for over 45 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood where Steve made friends and loved to make them laugh, and Bella Hospice staff, with special thanks to Kelly and Kyra. Services will be held at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME 5265 NORWICH ST. HILLIARD, OH 43026 with calling hours Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 5-7 PM and funeral on Friday, June 29^th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Ohio Chapter 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215.
