Steve Alex Kallas

Steve A. Kallas, 93, was born December 30, 1922 in Cleveland, OH to Alex and Helen Kallas. Steve was residing in Hilliard, Ohio at the time of his death on Monday evening December 19, 2016 after moving from Ocala, Florida. Steve served in the 99th Infantry in World War II during the Battle of the Bulge as a Staff Sargent and was awarded 3 Bronze Star Medals, The Combat Infantryman and Expert Infantry badges. After the war he joined the Army Reserves where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Steve believed in the motto “go to work with a happy heart “and that is the way he approached everything in his life. He believed in giving your all, being positive and believing in yourself. He was an incredibly hard worker, spending his career in foundry sales. Later in life he became a farmer, inventor, and author of his war experience. He liked to keep moving so he tried out many hobbies including golf, bowling, softball, biking, swimming, and roller skating. His favorite was dancing which he was able to continue up until 6 months ago. Steve is survived by his wife of 6 years, Mary; his beloved children Suzanne and Shawn Greynolds of WV, Jill and Joe Zabka and Jeff and Stacy Kallas of Ohio. He was the adored grandfather to Sarah Zabka and Olivia Kallas. He was the step-father to Colleen Harrold and Kathleen Shannon both of Florida. He is also survived by his sister Bernice Rose of Ohio and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Osie of 49 years, his parents, brothers George, Theodore and James, and sister Toula. A Family Gathering will be held from 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m. THURSDAY, December 22, 2016 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026 (614)-876-1722 where Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held beginning at 2:00p.m. Burial will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
