Ted L. Jones, PhD and COL. USAR (ret), passed away on June 30, 2013. He was born in Rural Johnson County, MO on June 5, 1929 to the late Julian Jones and Hazel (Wonderly) Jones. He graduated from Farmers High School, RR 4, Warrensburg, MO in 1947. He graduated with a BS in Agriculture and a reserve commission as a 2nd LT in the US Army in 1951, a MS in Agricultural Economics in 1958 and a PhD in Agricultural Economics, 1961 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Betty, son Ted L. (Lori) Jones II, daughters Susan (Kevin) Keith and Julie (Richard) Jones-Wright, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Peggy (Loren) Campbell Warrensburg, MO and brother David (Cheryl) Jones Liberty, MO. In his academic career, he served as Assistant County Agent- 4H and State Farm Management Specialist, Missouri Cooperative Extension Service UN of Missouri-Columbia, a researcher in the US Department of Agriculture, teacher and researcher in the Department of Agricultural Economics, UN of Tennessee-Knoxville, teacher and researcher in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, The Ohio State University, Professor and Assistant Director, Fiscal Affairs, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Professor and Assistant Director, Agricultural Industry, Ohio Cooperative Extension Service, The Ohio State University. He served as International Agricultural Consultant and Team Leader of USAID projects in Nigeria and Laos. He retired from OSU in 1988 and after a retirement of 1 day, became the State Director of the Arkansas Cooperative Service, UN of Arkansas. In his concurrent career in the US Army (Active Duty and Reserve), he served 29 years and retired as G-1, 83rd ARCOM with the rank of COL (06). He joined the United Methodist Church in 1956 and has been a member of the church since 1978 and served on many committees, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Hilliard Kiwanis Club for over 20 years and served on many committees and all of the officer positions including President. He loved to travel and spend winters in FL. He visited all 50 states and 22 foreign countries including a trip around the world. Family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. A celebration of life service will be held 11 am Saturday at the Hilliard United Methodist Church, 5445 Scioto Darby Road, Hilliard, OH 43026. No flowers please. Gifts may be sent to the Hilliard United Methodist church or Army Emergency Relief Fund, 3501 E. Eleven Mile Rd., Warren, MI 48397.
