Tharon Bailey

d. December 6, 2009

Tharon Lee Bailey went home to be with the Lord on December 6, 2009. She was born January 10, 1923 to Nannie and Thomas Coplin of Rushville, Ohio.

Tharon Lee graduated from Mt. Sterling High School. She married Franklin W. Bailey in 1941. She and husband Franklin worked side by side on their farm together for many years. She could drive a tractor, milk a cow, dress a chicken and still have time to be the world’s best mother and wife. During those years they also owned and operated Bailey’s Restaurant from 1955 to 1960.

She was proud of her work for the consolidation of Westfall Schools. A member of Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church for all of her adult life, she was active in the United Methodist Women and loved working with the children in Sunday School. She was always ready to help with making pies, mincemeat and noodles for friends and neighbors.

Family, traveling, camping and square dancing filled their retirement years with many friendships, fun and love. They traveled to all 50 states, as well as Mexico, Canada, Israel and several Central and South American countries. After retirement they spent the winter months in southern Florida. She continued her community service through volunteering at Berger Hospital, Gulf Coast Hospital and the Mt. Sterling Community Center.

She was preceded in death by loving husband and lifelong partner Franklin; parents Nannie and Thomas Coplin; sisters Catherine Hite, Mildred Harkinson, Juanita Hesler; infant daughter; and grandson Eric Hill.

She will be sadly missed by daughters Patricia (Bob) Arbogast, Carolyn (David) Tadlock, and Bonnie (Mark) Strozinsky; seven grandchildren Jon (Penny) Shell, Jeffrey (Lauren) Tadlock, Michael Tadlock, Melisa (Jose) Trejo, Jackeline Hill and Brandon Johnson; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and many friends in both Ohio and Florida.

A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Michael Berne officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 9th from 4 – 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Berger Hospice, Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and the Mt. Sterling Community Center.
