Vera Humes

Vera Mae Humes, age 90, of Hilliard, passed away December 31, 2016. Member of Hilliard United Presbyterian Church. Retired administrative secretary for AFSCME- Ohio Council #8. Maverick Democrat on the Hilliard City Council and was also a Democratic Party Committee woman in Franklin County. Vera was an active member in the Hilliard Kiwanis, Key Club Advisor Hilliard Davidson High School and attended Jimmy Carter’s 1976 nominating convention as a delegate. Close and personal friend of the late John Glenn and Dick Celeste. Member of Hilliard Senior Center and inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2004 and community service award from Northwest Counseling Services 1997. Preceded in death by parents Herman and Vera Bachers, stepmother Violet, daughter Kim Wissinger, and brother Bill Bachers. Survived by children William (Linda) Humes and Bruce (Maxine) Humes, sister Arlene Baumann, grandchildren Traci, Billy, Jason, Michael, Jeremy, Rachel, and Jared, great grandchildren: Carli, Lexi, Teagan, Gigi, Billy, Colton and Dawson, nieces, nephews: Donna, Lynda, David, Darren, and Barbara, special friend Jean Carroll and her family along with a host of family and friends. Family will receive friends 5-8 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the TIDD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME WITH CREMATORY, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026. Private family inurnment at a later date.
