Welma J. Johnson

Welma Jean Johnson, born August 28, 1936 to parents Grith and Irene Whittington went to sleep and woke up in the arms of Jesus on Monday December 9, 2024. Welma was married to Gerald (Jim) Johnson on July 19, 1954, who preceded her in death in 2012. Jim and Welma parents to Michael (Margy) Johnson, Diana (Greg) Lyon, James (Teressa) Johnson, and Kevin (Lisa) Johnson. Grandmother to Todd, Trisha, Tyler, Tracy, Emily, Seth, Taylor, Harrison, Connor, and Riley and to 17 great grandchildren. Sister to Waneta, aunt to many nephews and nieces, devoted dog Mom to Ginger, her beloved Yorkie. Welma devoted her life to her family and God. Over the years, driving her kids to ballgames, practices, and dance lessons. She volunteered as a Den Mother for cub scouts, taught Sunday School, and along with taking care of the home and her family, she worked at the Hilliard Dairy Queen where she specialized in decorating the ice cream cakes. She also volunteered as a cook many summers at the church’s youth camp. She enjoyed making and decorating birthday and graduation cakes for her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to see lighthouses while taking many photographs to put in her picture albums. Welma enjoyed collecting dolls and beanie babies as a hobby, but more so as something to pass along to all her grandchildren. In later years, Welma was passionate about volunteering in the food pantry at the church and cooking meals for those in need. Welma’s legacy is living in the life lessons she taught her children, the importance of family, faith, generosity, and caring for others. She will be missed by family and friends, but we take comfort in knowing that she is in Heaven with Jesus and her loved ones who were waiting for her there. Her children and grandchildren know this is not goodbye, but only a see you later. We love you, Mom. Family will receive friends from 11am-1pm on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard, OH 43026; where funeral service will follow at 1pm. Interment Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Welma would have asked you to make a donation to your local food bank.
