Wilbert Hughes, Jr.

Wilbert Arthur Hughes, Jr., age 88, of Hilliard, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert A. Hughes and Adeline (Meek) Hughes, and his brother Philip Hughes. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ulma Janis (Van Houten) Hughes, son Kenton Hughes, daughter Melinda (Mark) Tomasevich, daughter Rebecca (Bill) Parsons, and grandchildren John (Laura) Tomasevich, Hayley Hughes, Anne (Caleb) Tomasevich, Taylor Parsons, Caelin Parsons, Colton Hughes, Nathan Hughes, and many close, lifelong friends. Bill was born on June 17, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from North High School in 1945. He served in the US Navy during WW II and graduated from the Ohio State University in 1950 with a degree in business administration. While at OSU he met Jan, and they married on December 18, 1949. He worked for State Auto Insurance for 31 years, and retired as a Vice President in 1991. Bill was an avid golfer and a Mason, and enjoyed several trips across the US and Europe. He volunteered for many years at the Ohio Historical Society, giving tours and portraying historical characters. He and Jan loved to dance and took ballroom dancing lessons for many years. Friends may call Monday, October 12 from 6-8 PM at the Tidd Family Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St. in Hilliard, OH, with a funeral service there at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 13, and a private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Ohio Health Hospice.
