William “Bill” Groce died peacefully on December 21, 2018 at the age of 79. He was born in 1939 in Coshocton, OH to Raymond and Elizabeth Groce and was raised in Zanesville, OH. He graduated from Bishop Rosecrans High School, received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Dayton and his Master’s degrees from The Ohio State University. Bill married Dianne Greiner in July, 1962 at St. Nicholas Church in Zanesville. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kansas from 1962-1964. Bill dedicated his working life to promoting Catholic education. In the Diocese of Columbus he served as a teacher, guidance counselor, coach and principal at Bishop Ready, Father Wehrle, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Mary Magdalene schools. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Ann. He is survived by his beloved wife Dianne, his four children Mary Ferris, John Groce, Kathryn (Ed) Miller and Stephanie (Steve) Groce-Niehoff, and his six grandchildren: Eddie and Emily Miller, Charlotte, Henry and Parker Groce, and Lanie Niehoff. He is well loved by them all. A private funeral mass will be held later this year to celebrate his life.
