William Robert Murray, beloved husband, father, grandfather and faithful servant of God passed into life eternal early on Friday, October 19, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Katherine (Kruger) Murray and father, Joseph Edward Murray of Bellaire. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Barbara (Stewart) Murray, children Christopher (Linda Kay), Robin and Colleen Murray; Grandsons Joshua Williams and Jamez Murray Earliwine, Granddaughter, Allie Murray and cherished step-children; Beth and Steve Spurling and children, Stewart and Billiejo Anderson and children; Brother, Charles Frederick Weisend (Julie), and so many other loved ones. Rev. Dr. Murray, born 3/11/1935 in Bellaire, OH, and a 1953 graduate of Bellaire High School, served as a Congregational minister for over 40 years beginning his ministry as Religious Director for WSAZ in Huntington, WV. He became senior pastor for First Congregational Church in Ceredo, WV in 1963 and went on to serve churches in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Galesburg, Illinois, Bradfordwoods, Pennsylvania, Kawkawlin, Michigan, Feeding Hills, Massachusetts and eventually returned to Ceredo, WV in 1992 where he served until his retirement in 2005. His ministry grew and prospered after his retirement as he utilized his great love of theater to teach and compose and perform drama presentations to the glory of God. He began his speaking career after attending George Hyde School of Radio Broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. His first radio job was at WOMP in Bellaire, Ohio after the station manager realized he had diligently walked to the top of the hill in search of employment. We were privileged to enjoy listening to his voice and wisdom upon the occasion of various speaking engagements and drama presentations. TV Guide once called him “The Man With The Unique Voice.” He attended Marshall University, Duke University, West Liberty College among other learning institutions in his continuing quest for knowledge, earning a Master’s of Divinity degree. “Scotty’s” faith, strength and endurance gave those whose lives he touched inspiration and assurance. He loved life, God and his family and fought many earthly battles so he could continue in this world with us. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life at Maple Grove UMC on Tuesday, October 23rd at 2:30. Private Internment to be held at Belmont Co. Memorial Cemetery in Bellaire, OH.
