Willis F. Hughes, 84, of Hilliard, Ohio and formerly of Lima, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2016 at National Church Residences at Mill Run. He was born May 19, 1932 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to the late Harry and Dorothy Mae (Ramey) Hughes. On September 17, 1952 he married Gladys Bayes, formerly of Paintsville, Kentucky, who survives him.
Willis spent over 50 years helping the hearing impaired in North Western Ohio as the founder and President of Hughes-Maico Hearing Aid Centers, based in Lima, Ohio. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a former District Deputy Grand Master of the 10th Masonic District of Ohio. Willis was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving two tours of duty in the Korean War. A devoted Christian, husband and father, Willis’s greatest joy came in his role as grandfather. Prior to moving to the Columbus area, he spent his free time working on his and Gladys’s 13 acre country home outside Lima and fishing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; three children, daughter Brenda (Ed) Morgan, son Don (Sherri) Hughes, and daughter Tammy (Dave) Wise; six grandchildren, Jason (Maria) Morris, Melissa (Chad) Munoz, Danielle (Jackson) Briggs, Benjamin (Jenna) Hughes, Danny Wise and Matthew Wise; four great-grandchildren, Julia Munoz, Luke Munoz, Caleb Briggs and Isaac Briggs; sisters, Betty Prater, Cathy (Rick) Sanchez; Cheryl Ulrich; Toni (Ralph) Bennett; brother-in-laws, Jack Bayes and Bob (Connie) Bayes; sister-in-law, Louise Jung; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Lawrence and Patsy Bayes; and four brothers, Robert Darrell Hughes; A.J. Hughes, James Hughes and Ronnie Hughes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28th at Tidd Family Funeral Home, Hilliard, Ohio. A fellowship luncheon will follow the Funeral at Northwest Presbyterian Church, Dublin, Ohio. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
